How to record a Zoom meeting without a bot

How to record a Zoom meeting without a bot, step by step

Install Recordd on your Mac and grant one permission
Recordd runs on macOS 14 or later, Apple Silicon or Intel, as a direct download with automatic updates. On first launch it asks for one permission: Screen & System Audio Recording. Recordd uses Apple’s ScreenCaptureKit for the audio only; no video or screen content is accessed. There is no virtual audio device to install and nothing to change in your sound settings.

Join the meeting and press ⌘R
Open Zoom, join as you normally would, then press ⌘R. Recording starts. Recordd follows your default input device, so if you swap to AirPods mid-call, it keeps going.

Know what is being captured
Two tracks: your microphone on one, everything the Mac plays on the other. Echo cancellation and mic ducking keep your voice off the meeting track and the meeting off yours. Audio is written to disk in short segments while you record and uploads as you go, so a crash, a force-quit, or a Mac going to sleep does not lose the meeting; Recordd recovers and finishes it on the next launch.

Stop, then Process
When the meeting ends, stop the recording and tap Process, or Save without transcribing and decide later. Pick the language, or auto-detect, from 26 languages. Because your voice has its own track, you are tagged “me” in the transcript. Other participants are separated by voice; name someone once and Recordd recognizes them next time. With calendar access, it suggests attendees from the event.

Read the summary, search, ask
Each processed recording gets a title, a summary, and action items. Search finds any word across all your recordings. Chat with a single recording (“what did we decide about the launch date?”) and jump to the moment it was said. Export the transcript as Markdown or plain text with speaker labels, or reveal the audio file in the Finder.

Tell the room
A bot announces itself by being there. Without one, you have to. In many places you need everyone’s consent to record, and the rules vary. Say it at the start; a transcript nobody minded is worth more than one you cannot share.
Record Google Meet and Teams meetings on Mac the same way
Recordd does not know or care which app the sound comes from. Google Meet in a browser tab, Microsoft Teams, Slack huddles, Discord, FaceTime, WhatsApp on the Mac: press ⌘R and the same two-track recording starts. The Meet or Teams recording button, which usually needs an admin or a paid plan and always tells everyone, is not required.
When Zoom’s own recording is the better choice
If you are the host and the meeting is a company town hall or a webinar that needs the video, Zoom’s built-in local or cloud recording is the right tool. It captures the screen shares and the gallery view, and it announces itself to participants. Recordd records audio only, and it is at its best when you want a transcript you can search, not a video you can replay.
Recordd is also Mac-only for meeting capture. On iPhone it records the microphone, so a Zoom call on the phone would be picked up only through the speaker, not as a separate track.

Will other participants know I’m recording?+
Not from the software. Nothing joins the call and Zoom shows no recording indicator for Recordd. That is why you should tell them; in many places consent is required.
Do I need to be the meeting host?+
No. Recordd records what your Mac plays and what your microphone hears, regardless of your role in the meeting.
Does it need a virtual audio driver like BlackHole or Loopback?+
No. Recordd uses Apple’s ScreenCaptureKit to capture system audio with one macOS permission. Nothing is installed in your audio settings.
Can I record a Zoom meeting without a bot on iPhone or Windows?+
Recordd’s two-track meeting capture is Mac-only. On iPhone, Recordd records the microphone. There is no Windows or Android version.
Is there a live transcript during the meeting?+
No. Transcription happens after you stop and tap Process. Recordd does not show a live transcript while recording.
