Transcribe audio in ChatGPT and Claude, step by step

Add Recordd to ChatGPT
In ChatGPT, open Plugins, search for Recordd and add it. If it isn't listed for you yet, you can add it yourself: Plugins, then Add, then a custom MCP server, with the URL https://recordd.co/api/mcp and no authentication.

Add Recordd to Claude
In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, and add Recordd from the directory. If it isn't listed for you yet, choose Add custom connector and enter https://recordd.co/api/mcp. Recordd needs no sign-in.

Give it a recording
In ChatGPT, attach an audio or video file and ask for a transcript, for example “Transcribe this recording and tell me who said what.” In ChatGPT and Claude you can also just ask “Can you transcribe a recording for me?”: Recordd shows an upload box where you pick the file, which also works when you are out of attachments. Or paste a public link to an audio file.

Read the transcript in the card
The transcript appears in a Recordd card with timestamps and Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on. Speaker numbers are voices, not names. Copy the whole transcript or download it as a text file. Transcription usually takes seconds; the first one after a quiet spell can take about a minute, and the card shows a running clock while it works.

Ask about it
The transcript is part of the conversation, so ask what you need: a summary, the decisions and who owns which action item, a translation, quotes on a topic, or a list of to-dos from a voice memo.
What it can transcribe
Files up to 2 hours and 500 MB each: m4a, mp3, wav, aac, ogg, flac, webm, mp4 and mov. The spoken language is detected automatically from 26 languages, or you can name it in your request. Recordd can't transcribe YouTube or other streaming-site links; if you have the recording as a file, use that instead.
What happens to your audio
Your file is sent to Recordd, transcribed, and deleted as soon as the transcript is ready. We keep no copy of the audio or the transcript, and we never train AI on your recordings. The transcript goes back to ChatGPT or Claude, which handle it under OpenAI’s or Anthropic’s privacy policy. Recordd doesn’t receive your name, email address or conversation. Yes. Transcribing in ChatGPT and Claude is free, and you don’t need a Recordd account.
How do I transcribe a file in Claude?+
Ask Claude to transcribe a recording, for example “Can you transcribe a recording for me?”, and pick the file in the Recordd upload box that appears. You can also paste a public link to an audio file.
Can it tell who said what?+
Yes. The transcript separates the voices as Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on. ChatGPT or Claude can work out names when people say them in the recording.
Which languages does it support?+
26 languages, detected automatically. ChatGPT or Claude answers you in your own language, and can translate the transcript.
Can it transcribe a YouTube video?+
Not in ChatGPT or Claude. If you have the recording as a file, attach it or pick it in the upload box.
